Drawing and Painting
Tenure-Track

The Department of Visual Arts at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Drawing and Painting beginning in the fall of 2014.

Position
The candidate will be qualified to teach BFA, MA, and MFA level painting, drawing and related courses, from beginning to advanced levels, seminars and critique-based studio classes, as well as special topics courses in the candidate’s area of artistic research. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and working independently with graduate students in the graduate studio arts program.

Faculty responsibilities include 18 studio contact hours and three office hours per week, attending faculty and area meetings, advising students, and participating in professional and service activities to the department, college, university, and community. Faculty members are expected to maintain their creative activities and/or scholarly research as recognized by peer review, including professional and outreach activities.

Required Qualifications
Candidate must:

  • Have an MFA degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis of study in painting
  • Be a practicing artist with an established reputation and significant record of studio and/or scholarly achievement.
  • Have strong technical skills, expertise in traditional and contemporary painting techniques, and experience in contemporary arts practices.
  • Have a strong commitment to teaching, a proven ability to encourage critical thinking and problem solving, as well as a willingness to take an active role in advancing the curriculum within the Drawing and Painting concentration.
  • An understanding of contemporary theory and historical concepts in art, and how they relate to current studio practice.
  • Present a strong portfolio that demonstrates a commitment to contemporary practice in painting or an interdisciplinary practice, plus an active exhibition record that demonstrates a high level of professional commitment.
  • Have the ability to work effectively with a wide range of culturally diverse students and faculty.

Desired Qualifications

  • A secondary area of proficiency in printmaking is desired but not required.
  • College level teaching experience is desired.

Graphic Design
Tenure-Track

The Department of Visual Arts at California State University, Fullerton is seeking a full-time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Graphic Design beginning in the fall of 2014.

Position
The candidate will be qualified to teach BFA, MA and MFA level courses that explore graphic design principles in relationship to traditional and  emerging digital media. Courses range from graphic design foundations, package design, interactive media and motion graphics. The successful candidate will oversee student advising; mentoring of graduate students and thesis; serve on departmental, college, outreach and university committees.

Required Qualifications
Candidate must have:

  • An MFA degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in Graphic Design
  • Excellent technical skills (within the most current Macintosh operating system) to instruct students in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud as well as an advanced understanding of web publishing and scripting, user interface design, and integrated 3D design in relationship to graphic design
  • A strong commitment to teaching and a willingness to take an active role in advancing the curriculum within the Graphic Design Area.
  • An understanding of contemporary theoretical and historical concepts in art and design, and the ability to encourage critical thinking and problem solving are essential
  • Experience as a practicing graphic designer with an established reputation and a significant record of creative and/or scholarly achievement.
  • The ability to work with a wide range of culturally diverse students and faculty
