THE POSITION
Under direction coordinates the administration of the City’s Public Arts
Program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in the development of program guidelines; establishes and
maintains relationships with developers whose projects are subject to
the requirements of the City’s Public Art policy; assists developers in
understanding and complying with program guidelines; provides technical
assistance to developers in the selection of art consultants, artists,
and the development of preliminary and final art plans; monitors
commissioned artists for compliance; compiles and maintains public art
project inventory and database; assist in the design of public art
promotional media and materials; assists in the administration of the
Downtown Cultural Trust Fund, including monitoring the receipt of
developers’ allocations; provides liaison between various City
departments, citizen commissions and committees; conducts research and
analysis; prepares written reports, oral reports, and correspondence;
and performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Any combination of education and experience which provides the
knowledge, skills, and abilities for successful job performance, such
as: A bachelor’s degree in Art History, Visual Arts, Art
Administration, Public Art or a related field AND three (3) years of
recent experience in planning, developing, and implementing public art
or related programs. Experience and knowledge of the Pasadena arts
community is preferred. Master’s degree highly desired.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES-Working knowledge of the theory and
practices of public art programs; current issues and trends in the
support and financing of public art; architectural, landscaping, site
and cultural considerations in relation to public art. Ability to
communicate effectively with persons from widely differing cultural
backgrounds, approaches and concerns, including the public,
building-industry professionals, artists, City staff, and officials;
develop and present clear, logical and concise reports and
recommendations; formulate sound program strategies, guidelines and
promotional materials in support of the City’s public art policy and
goals; establish and maintain effective working relations.
EXAMINIATION-Applicants who appear best qualified based on applications
and supplemental applications submitted will be invited to any
combination of written, performance, and oral appraisal to further
evaluate their job-related experience, education, knowledge, skills, and
abilities. Probationary work test period is one year.
VACANCIES-There is one vacancy in the Cultural Affairs Division which
may be filled as a result of this selection process. However an eligible
list of candidates may be established which may be used to fill this
vacancy.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver’s license
at time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record is required.
Evenings and weekends availability is required.
Must be able to lift, push and/or pull 15 pounds.
