Description
A Contemporary Art Gallery in Chelsea is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Registrar. We are a fine art gallery and art consulting firm that specializes in the acquisition and placement of contemporary and 20th Century works of art. The ideal candidate will have a BA or higher and at least three years professional experience in a museum/gallery, with experience in registration or collections management preferred. Must be highly organized and attentive to detail and capable of prioritizing and executing multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. A thorough working knowledge of registration, fine art shipping and logistics are required. Candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as in a close knit team with a hands-on attitude. Excellent research, writing, computer and communications skills are essential. Familiarity with inventory databases, Google and MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite is needed. Responsibilities: - Maintain all inventory records in gallery’s database and work closely with the sales assistant to keep Artsy and website inventory up to date - Manage all art shipments (domestic and international), including transport artwork from artists’ studios to gallery and clients; consolidate international and regional shuttles with multiple picks ups for art fairs; consignments of works into and out of the gallery; maintain incoming and outgoing paperwork. - Manage and work closely with art handlers to ensure timely, efficient and safe handling of all inventory, packing/unpacking, and installations - Organize on and off site art storage to utilize the space in the most responsible and practical way - Oversees condition report processes and the archiving of resulting documents. - Organization of installation and de-installation of gallery exhibitions and art fairs - Generate shipping and installation quotes for clients - Coordinate with shippers to receive and release artwork - Organize the framing of artworks for both the gallery and clients - Work closely with gallery owner and directors to ensure that invoicing, billing, and production costs are up to date - Provide additional administrative support to gallery owner and directors as needed, including ordering office supplies, and other daily tasks This is a full time and permanent position.
