Grants: USArtists International Grant Program (USA)

USArtists International supports performances by U.S. artists at important cultural festivals and arts marketplaces around the globe. Committed to the presence of U.S. based artists on world stages, USArtists International provides grants to ensembles and individual performers in dance, music and theatre invited to perform at significant international festivals and performing arts markets.

USAI encourages and promotes the vibrant diversity of U.S. artists and creative expression in the performing arts by expanding opportunity and exposure to international audiences, encouraging international cultural exchange and enhancing the creative and professional development of U.S. based artists by providing connections with presenters, curators and artists around the world.  USAI extends the reach and impact of professional touring artists and ensembles from the United States and is committed to expanded touring opportunities for continued sustainability of U.S. artists.

USAI provides grants of up to $15,000 towards support of artist fees, travel, accommodations, per diem, shipping and visa preparation.

USArtists International is a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through the generous funding of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Howard Gilman Foundation, and The Trust for Mutual Understanding.

Fiscal Sponsorship
USArtists International guidelines require applicants without 501(c)3 nonprofit status to apply using a US-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Nonprofit organizations serving as fiscal sponsors must provide this service as part of their regular operations and this service must be available to any artist that meets the respective organizations’ published criteria for fiscal sponsorship. Fiscal sponsors do not have to be located in your state of residence. The links provided below are resources for potential applicants and the organizations are not affiliated or endorsed by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Program Description:

Ox-Bow’s Artist-in-Residence program, located in Saugatuck, MI, offers artists and writers the time, space, and community to encourage growth and experimentation in their practice. During the fall residents are given the time, solitude, and focus often unavailable to so many working artists.

At Ox-Bow, artists can enjoy 24-hour access to their studios, and an inspirational setting, free from the expectations of commercial and academic demands. During the fall season, Artists-in-Residence have the opportunity to work in studios not available during the summer session. The fall is an ideal time for writers to apply as there are studios dedicated specifically to them. It’s also a great time to propose group or collaborative work. The residency is open to all visual art disciplines and writers.

The residency provides:
• Studio (access to ceramic, printmaking, and painting studios—if you would like access to these facilities make sure this is clearly stated in your application)
• Private room
• Meals
• A community of engaged artists
• Opportunities to share work: slide presentations and/or readings

Residencies: Three new open calls from The International Studio & Curatorial Program (New York)

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) announces three open calls for artist residencies in New York City in 2017–18, funded by The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and SAHA Association. In addition, Norwegian and Finnish sponsors are currently accepting applications for ISCP residencies.

Each residency includes 24-hour access to a private 300 sq. ft. studio space in Brooklyn, studio visits from visiting critics and an appointed advisor; field trips to museums, galleries and other cultural venues; and participation in artist talks and Open Studios. In addition, residents have the opportunity to work with a studio assistant, develop projects in the public realm with the support of ISCP staff, and are invited to take part in ISCP's exhibition program. Residents become part of a growing network of international artists and curators who are ISCP alumni.

ISCP Pollock-Krasner Residency 
ISCP is currently accepting applications from visual artists including painters, sculptors, and artists who create installations, or work on paper, including printmakers, who are eligible to work in the United States, for a fully-funded five-month residency, from September 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018, plus living and materials stipends (approximately 2,300 USD per month).

The selection committee will review applications based on quality, originality and artistic merit. Other consideration factors are: the potential impact of the residency on the applicant, the applicant's past accomplishments, and preparedness to undertake the residency. Studio visits/interviews with finalists will be held by the selection committee.

National Endowment for the Arts Residency 
ISCP announces an open call for a fully-funded four-month residency, from September 1 to December 31, 2017, plus stipend (500 USD per month) for an artist whose work focuses on documentary practices. The selected resident will be expected to research, develop and produce at least one project on one or more of the following issues: fact and fiction, the representation of the real, and ethics and the documentary. This work will be included in an ISCP exhibition in October 2017. Applications will be accepted from visual artists in all disciplines who are based and eligible to work in the United States.

The selection committee will review applications based on quality, originality and artistic merit. Other consideration factors are: the potential impact of the residency on the applicant, the applicant's past accomplishments, and preparedness to undertake the residency. Studio visits/interviews with finalists will be held by the selection committee.

SAHA – Supporting Contemporary Art from Turkey 
Artists from Turkey are invited to apply for a fully-funded three-month residency supported by SAHA – Supporting Contemporary Art from Turkey. The residency will take place between September 1 to November 30, 2017 and includes a stipend of up to 7,000 USD for accommodation and living expenses in New York City, and related travel costs.

The selection committee will review applications based on quality, originality and artistic merit. Other consideration factors are: the potential impact of the residency on the applicant, the applicant's past accomplishments, and preparedness to undertake the residency. In addition, applicants who have not previously lived or worked in New York will be given priority.

Residency: Houston Center for Contemporary Craft seeks studio artists (Houston, TX)

The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft is inviting applications for its 2017-18 Artist Residency Program.

From five to ten residencies of from three to twelve months will be awarded to craft artists working in wood, glass, metal, fiber, clay, or mixed media. Each artist will receive a $500 monthly stipend and a $300 quarterly housing/materials allowance. The residency also provides twenty-four-hour access to two-hundred-square-foot artist studios equipped with sinks, telephones, and wireless Internet access. In addition, a wide variety of resources and opportunities, including teaching assignments through HCCC and collaborative works with fellow residents, are also available.

During his or her residency, the artist's creative work is represented by HCCC and is considered for display in the Asher Sales Gallery. Additional opportunities include discussions with curators and gallery owners, exposure at HCCC events, and interactions with visiting art professionals; ongoing professional development; and a group exhibition at the end of residency cycle.

The application period opens January 1, 2017. Juried selection is based on the quality of creative work, the applicant's ability to interact with the public, his or her career direction, and program diversity. All applicants must be able to fulfill a program requirement of working in their studios twenty-four hours per week and at least two weekends per month during the center's public hours.

Accepted artists will be notified via e-mail in April.

Chulitna Lodge Artist-In-Residence Program seeks to provide the time, space, clarity, and facilities for all forms of creative professionals to make and meditate.

We encourage the gamut, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic hobbyists, to apply for our various programs.

There is a complete wood-shop representing most every tool one would need.
Some Printmaking and Digital Photography facilities.
Welding and cutting tools.  (Metal can be flown in, or repurposed from appliances/equipment collected over Chulitna's 80+ years.)
Light is ample, as is space for painters.

Writers and researchers will find our library a great place to find everything from obscure local native legends, to biology, anatomy or taxa.

Fellowships

Partial scholarships include Room & Board, but not transportation.
Work study options are also available.
All scholarship and work study artists are expected to participate in meal preperation, and clean up, and/or gardening.

Early summer is a fantastic beauty full of hope and spring blossoms.  Mid-Summer has great intensity with the midnight sun.  Late summer to fall brings salmon, the changing of the leaves, and Aurora Borealis.

Residency + stipend for working artist-parents: Womens Studio Workshop

Deadline for Applications: October 15, 2016 midnite EST
Studio Disciplines: Intaglio, Letterpress, Papermaking, Screenprinting, Photography, Ceramics

The Parent Grant—made possible by new support from the Sustainable Arts Foundation—is a four-week residency for an artist with dependent child/children under the age of 15. Artists may choose to work in any of our studio disciplines: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, photography, or ceramics.

This grant includes a $1000 childcare stipend, up to $250 for travel costs, free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access. WSW can also provide technical advice and production assistance.

The $1000 childcare stipend can be used at the artist’s discretion, though a childcare plan must be submitted with the application. Possible childcare scenarios include:

Bringing a caregiver or partner to stay for the residency period;
Finding a childcare facility in the area (WSW has a resource list of professional, licensed child care centers. These facilities are generally open 7-5, Monday through Friday, and average $40-55/day.);
Locating individuals in the area who can provide child care (WSW can also assist with this);
Using the stipend to pay for child care at your family’s home base

If your child/children are coming with you, WSW can provide a two-bedroom apartment (with a single bed in each room) that has a bathroom and an open kitchen/living area where another bed can be placed. The maximum occupancy is three. Please note that, for safety reasons and to maintain a focused working environment, children cannot be in the studios where artists are working.

Housing Opportunity: MacArthur Park

Applications are now available for The Paseo at Californian, located in Westlake near MacArthur Park. Eligibility is based on household income and other factors. The building is owned and managed by companies that are not affiliated with the Affordable Housing Partnership for Artists or The Actors Fund. The building will have its own eligibility criteria and application process. Applications must be mailed in and postmarked by February 26th in order to be entered in the lottery. Applications can be requested by mail at the address found here. Make sure you are ready!
