Joshua Liner Gallery seeks a full-time Registrar / Preparator. The ideal candidate should have significant experience in a gallery or museum environment, with a strong interest in Contemporary Art. Primary duties and responsibilities revolve around all aspects of the Gallery’s inventory: both their physical installation, maintenance, shipping and storage, as well as digital side of organization.   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: coordinating and managing all incoming and outgoing shipments, loans and consignments for external galleries and institutions, and condition reports for incoming works. Ongoing, the applicant is expected to maintain accurate inventory records for all artworks; measuring and entering new details in the database as they come, insuring that all details are up-to-date and inline with physical inventory onsite and at storage at all times. You will be responsible for all inventory lists as needed: price lists, checklists, and artwork labels for Gallery exhibitions and art fairs.   Physically, the applicant will be responsible for the installation of monthly exhibitions, and responsible for handling a team of outside installers, when necessary. Candidate must have a knowledge of materials to be able to build appropriate and safe packages for shipping, as well as for installing artwork. Understanding of various techniques and materials are crucial, in order to problem solve and for creative thinking when needed. Experience and skill in art handling is therefore essential. Minor photography (with provided equipment) is sometimes required, when needed. The candidate should possess a natural ability to work closely with others, to communicate as a small team. This includes a necessary professional demeanor for all client correspondence: both digitally, on the telephone, and in person. The ability to work well with artists and collectors to organize shipping and installation details is central to this position. Due to this detailed aspect of this position, our ideal candidate will be highly organized and thorough. A knowledge of Artbase is preferred, as well as familiarity with Adobe design programs.   This is a full time position and includes benefits, 10:00AM – 6:00PM, Tuesday – Saturday. Additional days and hours as needed for installing and de-installing exhibitions, local art fairs, etc. Salary commensurate with experience, benefits included.

Position Summary:

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years administrative support experience in a fast-paced professional environment.
• Excellent phone manner and verbal communication skills.
• Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and initiative.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Demonstrable ability to represent the Association in a professional manner both on the phone and in person.
• Good computer literacy and proficiency (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Internet based research, etc.). 
• Classical music and/ or museum background a plus.
• Must be able to correctly pronounce visiting artists, conductors and composers names.

Call for Entries: Summer Group Exhibition at DAC Gallery (Los Angeles)

The DAC Gallery is seeking submissions for its annual Summer Group Exhibition that will take place June 3rd - July 7th, 2017.

This call is open to all artists within the continental United States. There is no submission fee. Although the range of accepted mediums is largely open, the gallery is interested in emphasizing artwork that is wholly or in part, made from fiber-based materials. 

Submissions are due by 4PM on May 12, 2017 to DACGalleryLA@gmail.com. Submissions will only be accepted through email (Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive, and compatible methods of large file delivery applications are acceptable). An opening reception will be held on Saturday, June 3rd from 6-8PM.

The New Art Center's Curatorial Opportunity Program (COP) is currently accepting proposals for contemporary art exhibitions involving two or more artists and at least one public program.

This open-call program supports independent curators of contemporary art by making diverse visions possible in a non-profit and alternative exhibition space. The program investigates contemporary culture through the visual arts, exhibits strong curatorial voices, and encourages the timely examination of new ideas and perspectives. Curators of accepted proposals receive a 1,000 USD stipend as well as administrative, installation, marketing & P.R. support.

Requirements:
- Proposals must include works by two artists or more.
- Proposals must include one public program with an educational component; more than one is encouraged.
- Curators can choose to include their own work in their proposal, but in some cases, they may be asked to eliminate their work from the proposal if the panel feels that such a cut would strengthen the exhibition.

108|Contemporary, in partnership with the Oklahoma Center for the Humanities at The University of Tulsa, is issuing a call for artists to submit works to be included in an upcoming exhibition, Steeped: The Art of Tea.

This exhibition aims to look at the past, present, and future of tea as well as the way this distinctive drink has shaped our sense of personal, ethnic, and global identity. Some of themes that this show aims to explore are memory, community, relationship building, reinforcement of social development, social status, culture, and ceremony. Eligibility: This exhibition is open to individuals 18 years and older. Media is limited to 2- and 3-dimensional contemporary fine craft arts, such as, but not limited to: glass, fiber, metal, ceramics, wood, and mixed media. Installation work is encouraged. Work must be original and completed in the last two years and not have been shown in the Tulsa area. The work delivered must be the same work as submitted. Each artist may submit up to three works and up to two images for each work. There is no submission fee.

Entry Procedure: Artists must apply online.

Sales: 108|Contemporary will retain a 40% commission on all sales. It is not required that artwork be for sale.

Delivery: Artist is responsible for prompt delivery to the gallery during the delivery period. If work must be shipped, the artist is responsible for covering shipping to the gallery and 108|Contemporary will cover the return shipping.

Description:  The gallery is now accepting exhibition proposals for the 2017-2018 season. The space is located in the Fine and Performing Art Center in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago, and artists exhibiting in this 2016-2017 season include Fidencio Martinez, Kate Shannon, Charles Matson Lume, Joshua Brennan, and Mariah Karson. 

The call is open to ALL artists, and as part of the Building Bridges: Arts, Culture, and Identity grants program for the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, one exhibition during the season will highlight the work of a Muslim-American artist. The work should have a focus on an exploration of narratives related to being Muslim in America, and more information about the grant can be found here. A small stipend is included.

Call for proposals, entry: Phantom Art Galleries (Wisconsin)

The Wisconsin Arts Board recognizes and encourages the potential of artists to help create healthy communities and vibrant downtown spaces. Because of this, the Wisconsin Arts Board developed the "Phantom Art Galleries – Wisconsin" Pilot Program, to encourage artists, arts professionals, and arts organizations to partner with downtown development entities (and vice versa) in order to revitalize their downtowns. Specifically, the program provides grant recipients with funding and technical assistance to turn vacant downtown storefronts into temporary art galleries. In doing so, the empty downtown spaces have been revitalized, and local/regional Wisconsin artists have access to non-traditional spaces in which to show their work.

From this program, we have seen much growth and positive outcome within the communities involved. We at the Arts Board, as well as our Phantom Art Galleries - Wisconsin grantees, hope to inspire more communities to create this dynamic partnership between their own local artists and downtown developers. Feel free to contact any of the involved organizations.  Each group is willing to discuss the creation, maintenance, and outcomes of their Phantom Art Gallery program, as well as tips for starting a similar program in your own downtown area!

The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs is now accepting proposals for its 2017-18 Artist in Residence (AIR) and City of LA (COLA) Master Artist Fellowship grants programs. 

The Artist in Residence RFP seeks community-based/teaching artists to coordinate multi-week participatory workshops culminating in group presentations in non-arts venues such as social service agencies. Artist In Residence Guidelines can be found here. 

The COLA Fellowship Program honors an assortment of Los Angeles' best contemporary artists. The awards allow accomplished artists to create new work while DCA organizes a museum exhibition, performing arts showcase, and an online catalog to document and market the selected artists and their new works as one cross-section of the exciting Los Angeles art scene. Democracy, citizenship, freedom.

Three years after the Civil War, the 14th Amendment was ratified to the Constitution. The second of three Reconstruction Era Amendments, it was set in place to grant citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States”. For the first time in American history this included people that were formerly bound by slavery which fundamentally changed the nation’s identity and civic discourse.

Today, citizenship is still evolving as it intersects a host of political issues such as voting rights, immigration reform, education, identity politics, criminal justice, etc. Considering the increase of mass protests throughout the nation, what does it mean to be an active citizen or to exercise your rights? What does the status of “citizen” imply to those that are disenfranchised, displaced, immigrants, or refugees? In what way does identity play into the privileges and/or duties of citizenship?

As we approach the election of our 45th president, the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery is seeking work that engages or is in response to citizenship and its contemporary relationship to the American political system. In doing so, the Gallery hopes to create a platform whereby the creative community can contribute, participate, and expand upon the complex nature of our government as it relates to the American people.

David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA is seeking a full-time Head Preparator

We are seeking a highly motivated, well organized, and team-oriented person who wants to be part of a rapidly growing, internationally renowned contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles, CA. The Head Preparator position will be scheduled 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, but the applicant must be flexible and available outside of the designated days on an as needed basis. This is a managerial position, and the applicant is required to have extensive prior experience working as a preparator at either a contemporary art gallery or museum. 

Main responsibilities: 

1. Scheduling, training, and managing a preparatorial team in the following duties: 

-Installation, maintenance, and deinstallation of artworks for exhibitions, art fair presentations, photo shoots, and private viewings

-Proper packing of artworks for storage and outgoing shipments

-Proper unpacking of artworks for condition reporting and installation

-Receipt and release of artworks

-Local collection and delivery of artworks

-Proper construction of models for exhibitions and art fair presentations

-Storage maintenance

-Facilities maintenance, including, but not limited, to patching, painting, and general clean-up

2. Scheduling and oversight of general contractors, painters, electricians, and other independent contractors on an as needed basis

3. Preparation of installation instructions and diagrams. 

4. Acquisition, maintenance, and organization of all preparatorial supplies (for use at the gallery, off-site storage, and art fair presentations) 

Qualifications: 

1. Extensive prior experience working as a preparator for a contemporary art gallery or museum

2. Knowledge of (and ability to) accurately install, maintain, and deinstall artworks of a variety of mediums, including, but not limited to sculpture, painting, works on paper, photographs, video, ceramics, etc. 

3. Prior experience installing and deinstalling at art fairs preferred

4. Experience with Photoshop and other graphic and technical software preferred

5. High attention to detail

6. Able to efficiently lead and manage a team of preparators

7. Able to work independently

8. Capable of working successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
